xTool P3 Review: What Would Make Me Upgrade from the P2

I use the P2, so the P3's 80W laser, larger bed, and automatic setup immediately caught my attention. I went through the prices and specifications with a simpler question: which jobs would I be able to do better?

Bottom line

The xTool P3 starts at $6,999. I would consider it if material no longer fits a P2 or P2S, repeat batches need too many setups, or 55W is turning away work. I have not tested the P3. It uses xTool Studio, and adding the optional conveyor changes its documented safety state from Class 1 to Class 4.

Depending on the bundle, you may also need the CO2 gas cylinder, RA3 rotary, 5W IR module, conveyor, and honeycomb.

Before the specifications

What is your P2 or P2S stopping you from doing?

I would start with the job. Maybe a sign will not fit, a batch takes two setups, or 55W is slowing a repeat order. Once that problem has a time or dollar attached to it, the extra cost can be judged against something real. If I could not name the job, I would keep the machine I already had.

xTool P3

The current machine is costing time or turning away work.

I would write down the job, how often it comes up, and what it costs me now. That is the case the P3 would have to beat.

xTool P2 or P2S

The current setup already finishes the job.

If the queue is manageable and the software and installation already work, the smaller machine may still be the better business decision.

A different laser

The P3 does not fit the software, material, or available space.

LightBurn, metal cutting, or the size of the installation can take the P3 out of the running before power enters the conversation.

With that job in mind

I would time the P3 from blank placement to finished part.

On my P2, the cut itself is only part of the job. I still have to place the blank, check the preview, set the height, and handle the finished piece. Those are the moments I would watch to find out whether the P3 actually saves time.

    xTool lists a 915 x 458 mm bed and a motorized AutoLift base with 220 mm manual or 180 mm automatic height.
    Why I care
    The extra room could help when a large blank will not fit or a batch has to be split across several setups.
    What I would test
    I would measure usable fixture space, edge access, and repeatability with production jigs.
  2. Preview the layout

    What xTool says
    xTool describes a four-camera stack with panoramic, close-range, and flame-monitoring views.
    Why I care
    If that preview stays accurate across the full bed, it could reduce placement checks on mixed batches.
    What I would test
    I would measure registration error across the full bed and after repeated lid or fixture changes.
  3. Set height and focus

    What xTool says
    xTool pairs LiDAR ranging with its motorized AutoLift workflow and RA3 rotary support.
    Why I care
    Fewer measuring and focus steps would be useful compared with a more manual P2 workflow.
    What I would test
    I would repeat irregular-stock and rotary jobs to see how often the machine needs recalibration.
  4. Run the job

    What xTool says
    xTool publishes an 80W CO2 source and a 1,200 mm/s maximum speed for the P3.
    Why I care
    This is where the extra power and bed area would have to save enough time to justify the move.
    What I would test
    I would time finished parts and track cut quality, rejects, maintenance, noise, and sustained output.

Once I could name the job

xTool lists three P3 configurations from $6,999 to $10,459.

I checked xTool's U.S. store feed on July 30, 2026. It listed the three prices below. xTool was also advertising a Summer Maker Party promotion, so check the live cart, confirm that the promotion applies, and make sure the accessories you expect are actually included.

P3 Standalone

Before I called this a $6,999 purchase, I would price the accessories too.

The CO2 gas cylinder, RA3, 5W IR module, conveyor, and honeycomb are sold separately unless the bundle lists them. xTool was also advertising $300 off orders over $6,999 when I checked. Because the Standalone is exactly $6,999, I would not count that discount until it appears in the cart.

Then I would put it beside the P2S

The P3 starts $3,600 higher than the P2S.

The P3 adds 25W of CO2 power, more bed space, and more setup automation. That is what the extra money buys on paper. I have not measured how much of it survives the trip from loading a blank to taking a finished part out of the machine.

Before delivery day

I would decide where the P3 lives before ordering it.

At 231.5 pounds, this is not a laser I would slide out when I need it. The bench, software, exhaust, electrical supply, and safety setup all need to be settled before it arrives.

xTool Studio on PC only

xTool says the P3 does not support LightBurn, XCS mobile, or iPad control.

Class 1 changes with the conveyor

The enclosed standalone machine is Class 1. Attaching the optional conveyor changes operation to Class 4.

The IF2 2.0 inline fan is included, but filtration is not. Official documents conflict on maximum power consumption.

The 5W IR module costs extra

I would buy the 5W IR module for marking, not metal cutting.

xTool positions it for direct marking on selected metals and plastics. Before adding it to a bundle, I would list the materials I actually use and check whether the CO2 laser already handles the work.

I found conflicting speed labels, maximum power figures, and spot-size values in xTool's own documents. Until those agree, I am not going to pick whichever number makes the P3 look better.

Where I landed

My P2 tells me what I would test first.

I know how quickly a bed can feel small and how much setup can take back from a fast cut. I also know that none of that proves the P3 saves enough time to earn its price. That still needs the same files, materials, and fixtures on both machines.

What I know from using the P2

  • A bed gets small quickly when the work is a large blank or a full batch.
  • A fast cut does not save much if setup and material handling take the time back.
  • I use the software on every job, so it matters long after installation day.
  • The machine price climbs quickly once the job needs more accessories.

What I still need to learn from the P3

  • Finished-part time on matched files and materials.
  • Full-bed registration and repeatability with fixtures.
  • AutoLift, camera, LiDAR, and rotary behavior across repeated jobs.
  • Noise, exhaust, maintenance, rejects, and sustained production quality.

I would run the break-even math before ordering one.

Take the extra installed cost and divide it by the contribution margin from the additional work. That gives you the number of extra orders needed to earn the upgrade back. Use your own cutting, setup, and handling times for that math; xTool's maximum speed is not measured finished-job output.

My take

For me, the P3 would need a job waiting for it.

I would need to point to jobs that the larger bed, 80W power, AutoLift, cameras, or batch size would improve, and xTool Studio would have to fit the shop. If the P2S already handles the work at the quality and margin I need, I would keep the lower starting price.

Is this xTool P3 review based on hands-on P3 testing?

No. I own and use an xTool P2, but I have not tested the P3. I checked xTool's product, support, and store information on July 30, 2026 and used my P2 experience to decide which claims matter. P3 output, reliability, software feel, and finished-job time are still unanswered.

How much does the xTool P3 cost?

The xTool store feed checked July 30, 2026 lists P3 Standalone at $6,999, the Versatile Bundle at $8,209, and the All-in-one Bundle at $10,459. Prices and bundle contents can change, so verify the live checkout before buying.

Does the xTool P3 support LightBurn?

No. xTool says the P3 runs through xTool Studio on a supported PC. It does not support LightBurn, XCS mobile, or the iPad version. If your shop depends on LightBurn, that may rule out the P3 by itself.

Is the xTool P3 a Class 1 laser?

Should a P2 or P2S owner upgrade to the P3?

Start by measuring where the P2 or P2S is costing time or turning away work. Then compare that problem with the P3's extra power, bed area, setup tools, batch size, higher installed cost, and larger footprint. If the current machine still hits the quality, speed, and margin you need, I would keep it.
