Privacy and data use

This page explains what information The Crafty Catsman receives through the website, why it is used, and the choices available to readers.

Reader questions

The O1 Omni Reader Question Desk collects the question you enter, the topic you select, a generated submission identifier, the page path where the form was used, and an optional email address when you ask to be notified about that answer.

Questions are private when submitted. They are reviewed before publication, may be combined with similar questions, and may be edited for clarity. Published questions are anonymous. Email addresses, submission identifiers, network information, and moderation notes are never included in the public question record.

A one-way cryptographic rate key may be derived from the requesting network to limit abuse. The raw network address is not stored with the question. Optional answer-notification addresses are kept separately from question text and are scheduled to expire after 18 months unless removed sooner.

Website analytics

The site uses analytics to understand page visits, navigation, tool use, and whether readers engage with features such as calculators, buyer guides, and the question desk. Question text, email addresses, submission identifiers, and free-form error details are not sent to Google Analytics.

Browsers and privacy tools may limit analytics cookies or scripts. Core articles and tools remain available when analytics is unavailable.

Email choices

Email is optional. The question desk's answer notification is separate from general workshop or marketing updates. Submitting a question does not subscribe an address to the general newsletter.

Other forms may offer broader updates with their own visible consent language. Those consent choices remain separate from The Workshop Signal.

The Workshop Signal signup records the email address, the news lane where the form appeared, the page and placement, the consent wording in effect, confirmation status, and limited one-way technical values used to prevent abuse. Resend handles the requested confirmation and delivery emails. This information is used to manage selective maker-news decision briefs and rare time-sensitive alerts, not to publish a reader profile.

Submitting the newsletter form creates or refreshes a pending request. The address is not subscribed until the confirmation link is used. A previously unsubscribed address must confirm again, and an address suppressed for a complaint, hard bounce, or abuse reason cannot reactivate through the public form.

Workshop Signal emails include an unsubscribe choice. Confirmation links expire, stored confirmation credentials are one-way digests, and campaign eligibility is limited to confirmed addresses that are not unsubscribed or suppressed.

Your choices

  • Do not provide an email when submitting an anonymous reader question.
  • Use browser controls or privacy tools to limit cookies and analytics.
  • Unsubscribe through the link included in applicable email updates.
  • Ask for a submitted question or optional contact address to be removed.

Data-use or removal requests can be sent to thecraftycatsman@gmail.com. Include enough non-sensitive detail to identify the request; do not email payment information, passwords, or product serial numbers.
