Two 60W MOPA machines. Different focus routines, marking fields and packages.

Both are 60W MOPA engravers. One focuses automatically; the other offers a larger marking field. The better fit depends on the size of your designs and how often you change the height of the parts beneath the laser.

Compare the two 60W machines
The main differences

OMTech’s 60W MOPA Autofocus lists a 150 × 150 mm marking field and automatic focus. The 60W MOPA Split has a larger 175 × 175 mm field and manual focus. Both offer pulse control; LightBurn licenses and accessories depend on the package. We have not tested either machine; this comparison uses published specifications.

01 / Autofocus versus Split

Automatic focus
or room for a larger design?

The Autofocus model lists a 150 × 150mm field; Split lists 175 × 175mm. That is the area the laser can mark through the supplied lens, not the size of the plate holding your work. Compare it with your largest design before choosing.

  1. Autofocus helps when part heights change.

We would shortlist Autofocus for a mix of parts with different heights, provided your designs fit its 150 × 150mm field.

The mounting plate is larger than the marking area. We have not measured how much time autofocus saves.

  2. Split gives a larger marking field.

We would shortlist Split for larger designs or repeated batches where manual focus is manageable. Its listed field is 175 × 175mm.

OMTech names a JPT source for this model. We could not confirm the source brand in the Autofocus model.

  3. Compare the lens and software in your actual order.

Both machines are rated 60W. That does not make their lenses, focus controls or packages interchangeable. Check your largest design against the supplied field, then confirm the controller, LightBurn license and rotary support before ordering.

02 / Laser terminology

What MOPA, galvo
and split mean

These terms describe different parts of an engraver. “MOPA” tells you about the laser, “galvo” describes how the beam moves, and “split” describes the machine’s layout. A machine can be all three.

The feature that distinguishes MOPA

Adjust the length of each laser pulse.

2–500 nsPublished pulse-width range on both 60W models

Compared with a conventional Q-switched fiber laser, MOPA gives you control over pulse duration as well as frequency and power. Colored metal marks still need suitable material and settings to get the result.

OMTech’s explanation of MOPA and conventional Q-switched fiber

Beam movement

Galvo

Mirrors steer the beam across the marking field. Both ordinary fiber and MOPA lasers can use galvo scanning; the word does not imply autofocus.

Part height

Autofocus

Useful when you switch between parts of different heights. Repeated batches in one fixture may suit manual focus. We have not timed the difference.

Bench layout

Split

The source/control box sits beside the marking stand. Allow bench space for both and check the connecting cable’s reach.

03 / Software and setup

Does your package
include LightBurn?

Both listings mention LightBurn, but both also sell a separate “Machine with LightBurn” package. If you want to use it, check whether you already hold the right license or need to include one in the order.

License tier

05 / Before ordering

Check that your parts fit
and your shop is ready.

A sample on your own material is the best way to judge whether the finish suits your work. Then check the physical setup, software and accessories below so the delivered machine can do the jobs you bought it for.

Check 1

A sample on your material

Use your alloy, coating, finish and artwork. Compare contrast or depth, and find out how long the full job takes, including loading and handling.

Check 2

Enough room for the part

Confirm the supplied lens, marking field and height clearance with your fixture or rotary fitted. Your object must fit physically and your design must fit the laser’s usable area.

Check 3

Working software and setup files

Get the controller details, configuration and lens-correction files, and instructions for your operating system. Confirm the focus and rotary functions you need.

Check 4

The accessories in the box

Have OMTech list the license, rotary, extractor, fixtures and lenses included in your package. Price any missing items before comparing totals.

Check 5

Workspace requirements

Obtain the model’s safety classification, enclosure and extraction requirements, electrical requirements and training information. Autofocus is listed as Class 4; Split’s classification remains unconfirmed here.

Check 6

Shipping, warranty and repairs

Confirm delivery arrangements, return freight and who provides service. Check the laser-source warranty separately from the rest of the machine.

Choose these for marking and engraving.

We would not buy either as a general sheet-metal cutter or welding machine. A demonstration cutting a thin piece of metal does not show that it will make production parts with the edge quality and speed you need.

For fiber engraving with a diode for other materials, compare Solis Duo. For wood and acrylic sheet cutting, see our OMTech CO₂ comparison. If you also need thin-sheet metal cutting, read the MCore guide.

Compare current offers

Choose the field and focus you need.

Our shortlist would favor Autofocus for frequent changes in part height, and Split when the larger field fits a design the smaller one cannot. These are recommendations based on specifications, not a tested speed or quality ranking.

OMTech fiber laser questions

Is this a hands-on review of OMTech fiber lasers?

No. We researched OMTech’s listings and LightBurn’s documentation, checked October 19, 2026. We have not tested these machines or compared their engraving quality, focus accuracy or speed.

What do MOPA, galvo, autofocus and split mean?

MOPA describes a fiber laser with adjustable pulse duration. Galvo describes the system steering the beam. Autofocus adjusts focus automatically, while split means the source/control box sits separately from the marking stand. A machine can be MOPA, galvo and split at the same time.

What is different between the two 60W MOPA machines?

Autofocus lists a 150 × 150 mm field and automatic focus. Split lists a 175 × 175 mm field, manual focus and a JPT source. Both publish 2–500 ns pulse width and 1–4000 kHz frequency. The practical choice is between automatic focus and a larger listed marking area; we have not tested their results side by side.

Is LightBurn included with every OMTech fiber laser?

No license should be assumed from a compatibility claim. Both models checked here have a Machine option and a separate Machine with LightBurn option. LightBurn lists EZCad2 galvo support under Pro. Confirm your machine’s controller, required tier and included license with OMTech.

Does a rotary or extractor package also include LightBurn?

The listings name those as separate packages. Do not assume a rotary or extractor option also includes a LightBurn license. Get the complete contents in writing, including the lens and any fixtures you need.

Can I use the linked Autofocus manual as a 60W setup guide?

We could not confirm that it applies. The manual linked from the 60W Autofocus page is titled LYF-20/30/50W, revision UM-FMM-0061-V4. Obtain the matching 60W manual and configuration files from OMTech before setup.

Does MOPA guarantee colored marks or sheet-metal cutting?

No. Colored marks depend on the material, finish and laser settings, so compare a sample on the metal you use. These two machines are primarily marking and engraving options in this guide. We would not treat a thin-metal cutting demonstration as proof that either can replace a production sheet cutter.

Are the listed packages in stock?

OMTech’s US product data marked all nine packages available on October 19, 2026. We have not confirmed warehouse stock or shipping dates. Check those, along with freight and tax, before placing an order.
